Semi- Permanent and Permanent Colour

Permanent Colour at Baykar London is ideal for covering up to 100% grey hair, making significant colour changes or creating a long-lasting colour. Unlike semi-permanent colours, permanent colour stays vibrant and doesn’t fade easily. As your hair grows your permanent colour you’ll see a clearer regrowth as opposed to a semi permanent which fades out of the hair softly and creates a less obvious regrowth.

A major difference to note is that a permanent colour will give you up to 100% full coverage in comparison to a semi permanent which will give you 50% to 75% grey coverage.

Q. What products do you use?

A. We only use professional hair colour - currently we stick L'Oreal Professionel (Majirel, Inoa and Dia Colours). All L'Oreal colours are VEGAN friendly and both INOA and DIA colours are ammonia free

Q. How long does Semi-Permanent Colour Last?

A. There is no absolute answer, it depends on your hair and how aften you wash it. Based on washing 2 or 3 times per week, on average L'Oreal INOA semi-permanent colour lasts between 6 and 8 weeks whilst DIA colours slightly less at between 4 and 6 weeks, however you will see it subtly fade during that time.

Q. It's only been a couple of weeks but my greys are showing, is it safe to recolour?

A. Absolutely! Baykar London offers a range of colour services including a touch up on the HAIRLINE AND PARTING only - this is usually enough for up to 4 weeks growth, but if it is a little more you can opt for a ROOT TINT

Q. Do I need a patch test?

A. You need to do a patch test every 6-12 months, even if you have coloured your hair before and DEFINITELY if you have NEVER coloured your hair. It takes 2 minutes and it should be done around 48 hours before colouring.

For PERMANENT COLOUR We recommend that you do your regrowth approximately every 6 - 8 weeks. This will blend any visible harsh colour contrast as your hair grows. Obviously we do offer a HAIRLINE TOUCH UP if you can't wait that long!

With SEMI-PERMANENT COLOUR, if you want to keep the all over vibrancy we suggest you come in at the 6 to 8 week mark for a FULL HEAD colour however, if you don't mind the natural fade, you can choose to extend that to between 8 and 10 weeks to top up your regrowth which will be softer compared to permanent colour.

For both PERMANENT AND SEMI-PERMANENT colours, we recommend that you use colour specific products such as shampoo and conditioner to prolong not just the pigment and shine but the health of chemically treated hair, plus use a colour specific hair mask once a week for an extra boost.

HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights are applied by using a weaving technique and, in most cases foils on strands of your hair to create a look bespoke to your individual requirements. We can create brightness, dimension and texture depending on which service you choose and how bold you go is entirely up to you!

These services aren't just for blondes, we can also work with darker hair to subtly enhance with soft lights.

It is important to consider how you will maintain your highlights and the condition/health of your hair when discussing with your colour experts as regardless of the quality of the products used, you are still applying chemicals to your hair.

Q. Will highlights damage my hair?

A. The health of your hair is as much a priority at Baykar London as the colour we achieve. We use only professional products which are very gentle BUT there is always a risk of some damage when applying chemicals. We will consider this during your consultation and offer alternatives if we feel highlights will be too damaging.

Q. Do you need to use bleach?

A. Not always. There are some circumstances when we don't use bleach, for example if your hair is already naturally light, or too damaged for bleach we can use a "high-lift" colour as an alternative. A lot depends on the end result you want, beach gives you more lift (lightens more) but again we will discuss your options during your consultation.

Q. Will my hair go yellow if I highlight it?

A. Truthfully the answer to that is probably yes. Don't panic! When you highlight hair you are removing the natural pigment which often results in yellow tones. We combat this by applying a TONER when we do highlights (included in the price) which, as the name suggests, helps us achieve the tone you want. You can also prolong the tone at home by using products specifically designed for highlighted hair that have pigments in them or simply pop into the salon for a TONER in between highlights.

Q. How often will I need to have highlights done?

A. Most people start to really see their roots at around the 6 week mark. The contrast will depend on how much you lightened your hair initially compared to your natural colour. You don't need to do a full head of highlights every time though, we find that the full cycle starts with a Full Head then a T-Section, then a Half Head then back to a Full Head. Your stylist will advise what is best during your consultation and you can book your next appointment before you leave so you know your hair will always look AMAZING!

We recommend that you visit the salon every 6 to 12 weeks to keep your highlights looking as vibrant as they did on that first visit

As you hair grows, you will start to see a contrast between your natural hair and the highlights. You don't need to do a full head each time as your lengths will still be highlighted, so usually people do a full head followed by a T-Section, followed by a half head and so on.

You should visit the salon in between highlights to refresh your toner, this will stop the hair from looking brassy, and we do recommend you consider a conditioning treatment as highlights can make the hair a little dry.

Tip: Try using homecare products specifically formulated for highlights to prolong the colour and keep the hair in better condition.

BALAYAGE

Balayage is a French word that means to sweep. It is a hair colouring technique where the Stylist will paint the hair to give golden reflections that the Sun naturally gives the hair in Summer.

It is one of the most popular colour services requested in salons today and its popularity comes from the fact that it is extremely low maintenance and will grow out naturally.

Q. How often will I need to have my balayage done?

A. This is the best part of choosing a balayage, it is really low maintenance, By it's nature you will have a natural blend of colours that are applied through the lengths meaning you can leave it to do it's thing for months!! We fond that most people like to come for a refresh every 3 to 4 months, although we do recommend you pop in for a toner to remove any brassiness in between balayage services.

As a balayage can be as low or as high maintenance as you chose, the frequency of you visits is a choice.

To keep your balayage fresh, we recommend you come in for a Balayage Refresh every 3 to 6 months but you can choose to leave it longer.

You should visit the salon for a toner in between visits to stop your hair becoming brassy and we do recommend that you trim your hair regularly as chemically treated hair tends to be a little drier and breakage more likely.

You should also consider regular treatments for chemically treated hair and follow a proper homecare regime to prolong the life of your balayage.

BLEACH

Much like you would with hair colour and tint, you can opt to bleach your hair fully. This gives you a much bolder look than highlights or balayage which tend to lend themeselves towards a more natural look.

Bleached hair is extremely versatile as the process literally strips all the pigment from the hair allowing you to chose any colour or tone you fancy.

Bleaching the hair does, of course, come with its challenges, use of any bleach, no matter the quality will damage the hair to some extent and this is not something to be entered into lightly....

Probably not for the faint hearted as BLEACH is, after all, pretty strong, but only our highest trained colourists can do this for you and will of course discuss all the pros and cons during your consultation

Q. Will Bleach damage my hair?

A. in short, yes. That doesn't mean you can't bleach your hair. We use professional products which are relatively gentle, but you need to have a good hair care regime if using bleach all over your hair.

Q. How often will I need to have my bleach done?

A. Bleach is pretty high maintenance and will need to be retouched between 3 and 6 weeks if you don't want to see a massive contrast between your natural hair and the bleach.

Similarly to permanent hair colour, you will start to see the contrast between your natural hair and regrowth within the first few weeks.

We recommend that you you book in for either a hairline or regrowth services between 3 and 6 weeks, although we will take the health of your hair into consideration before doing any services.

More than with any other service we strongly recommend you use quality professional products designed specifically for bleached hair and use a hair mask at least once a week together with regular cuts to stop breakage and keep the hair as healthy as possible.
